Origin

The Unknown Beginning

Sai Baba's exact birth date and place remain a mystery. He first appeared in Shirdi as a young boy, meditating under a Neem tree, radiating a divine aura that attracted the villagers.

1858

Return to Shirdi

After a brief disappearance, he returned to Shirdi permanently with a wedding procession. Upon seeing him, the temple priest Mhalsapati welcomed him saying 'Aao Sai', which gave him the name 'Sai' by which he is known today.

Miracles

Lighting Lamps with Water

In a demonstration that marked the beginning of his public miracles, Baba lit earthen lamps (diyas) with water when shopkeepers refused to give him oil. This event solidified the villagers' faith in his divinity.

Teachings

Shraddha & Saburi

Baba lived in a dilapidated mosque he called 'Dwarkamai'. He taught a universal moral code of love, forgiveness, helping others, charity, contentment, inner peace, and devotion to God and guru. His core teachings were Shraddha (Faith) and Saburi (Patience).

1918

Mahasamadhi

On October 15, 1918 (Vijayadashami), Shirdi Sai Baba took Mahasamadhi. Before leaving his mortal body, he promised, 'I shall be active and vigorous even from the tomb.' His remains are interred in the Samadhi Mandir in Shirdi.

Did You Know?

Sai Baba practiced both Hindu and Muslim rituals. He lived in a mosque but was cremated in a temple. His slogan "Sabka Malik Ek" (One God Governs All) bridged the gap between communities and continues to inspire harmony.
