Sri Kshipra Ganapati
About the deity
The lord of beginnings and the remover of obstacles, Sri Kshipra Ganapati, gives darshan to devotees at the temple entrance.
Sri Kshipra Ganapati welcomes devotees at the entrance and sets the spiritual mood for their visit. "Kshipra" means quickly, or swiftly. Those who receive his darshan are said to be blessed swiftly.
It is traditional to worship Ganapati before starting any new undertaking or before beginning puja for any other deity. Likewise, at this temple's entrance, devotees seek Kshipra Ganapati's blessings to clear obstacles before proceeding to the main sanctum.
Kshipra Ganapati holds in his four hands a broken tusk (symbol of sacrifice), an ankusha (to remove obstacles), a pasha (to bless devotees) and the kalpavriksha (the wish-fulfilling tree).
Devotees worship Sri Kshipra Ganapati to remove obstacles in life, studies and work, to succeed in new beginnings, to be blessed with knowledge, and for protection from negative forces.
Vinayaka Chaviti is the main festival celebrated here. Over ten days, varied decorations and special pujas are performed.
