About Sri Panchamukha Shiva
Panchamukha is a form of Shiva. The five faces reflect five divine aspects — creation, preservation, dissolution, concealment and grace.
One of the most sacred and powerful forms of Shiva in Hindu dharma, Panchamukha Shiva is depicted with five faces — Sadyojata, Vamadeva, Aghora, Tatpurusha and Ishana — each representing a different divine function.
Sadyojata (west-facing) governs creation and is linked with the earth that holds all living beings. Vamadeva (north-facing) represents preservation and is linked with the life-giving waters. Aghora (south-facing) represents fire, with the power to dissolve and recreate. Tatpurusha (east-facing) represents the air, ever in meditation, protecting all life. Ishana (upward-facing) is linked with the sky and grants liberation to the whole universe. Thus Panchamukha Shiva reflects the five elements and protects all beings.
At Mukhti Dhamam, the pratishtapana mahotsavam of Sri Panchamukha Shiva was conducted from February 25 to February 27, 2026, with Vedic chants, homas and abhishekams in great splendour. Priests and devotees from nearby regions attended this three-day event in large numbers.
Devotees worship Sri Panchamukha Shiva for spiritual liberation (moksha) and inner transformation. They pray for protection from negative forces and for the strength and courage to overcome life's challenges. For good health, a peaceful life, and deeper spiritual experience through meditation and yoga, Shiva worship is deeply beneficial.
Monday is considered the most sacred day for Shiva puja. On that day special abhishekams with milk, water and bilva leaves are performed to seek Shiva's grace.
